New Dell UltraSharp Monitor Launched

On August 8, 2011, in Gadgets, by admin

Late last week launched their new Dell UltraSharp U2412M–a 24 “monitor with an IPS panel that is backlit using white LEDs. The screen has a foot that allows for tilt, swivel and height adjustments.

The new UltraSharp display has a resolution of 1920 x 1200, 1000:1 contrast (2,000,000:1 DCR), refresh rate of 8ms and a brightness of 300 cd/m2. For connections to the screen we find D-Sub, DVI and Display Port (one on each side) and finally four USB 2.0 ports.

Dell UltraSharp U2412M comes standard with a three year warranty that can be upgraded to four or five if you’re willing to pay for this. The price is $399 from Dell Home or Dell Home Office.

This is clearly a monitor intended for a more professional crowd: First of all the resolution is higher than average. Most 24-inch computer monitors come with a resolution of 1920 x 1080, which is the standard “full HD” resolution and more than enough for most users.

Secondly, the panel is a high-end IPS (in-plane switching) model, which provides much better viewing angles than the average other panel based on TN technology. The color reproduction is also something else entirely, making the monitor much better suited for photographers, designers and so forth who require a more comprehensive color spectrum and accurate imagery.

Projector Built from LEGO

On May 25, 2011, in Gadgets, Retro, by admin

Lego has long been used to create incredible designs and it seems that the only limit is your imagination for what you can build with these blocks. For example, (professional?) Lego builder Friedemann Wachsmuth has managed to construct a functioning Super 8 projector completely out of Lego technic-pieces.

The projector uses two motors for the rolls and run at 24 frames per second. It is equipped with automatic feed, rewind and has a reel capacity of 120mm. The only parts not made of Lego pieces are the lens, lamp and reels. The builder has used LED lighting that he says makes the picture extremely sharp. For all of you who want to make a DIY home movie projector, lets hope this guy will release some building instructions.

The C64 is Back

On April 13, 2011, in Gadgets, by admin

Gaming and Computer buffs of a certain age have probably been in contact with the now-cult home computer – the Commodore 64. It was an immediate success at its launch in 1982, and guys in the 30+ age range can talk about games like Ghosts & Goblins, Boulder Dash Loderunner with teary-eyed nostalgia in their eyes.

After years of trouble, the new model of Commodore is back, but now in an updated modern version. On the outside it looks just like a good old Commodore 64 including the thick sturdy keyboard. Inside, however, is an Atom D525 and graphics from Nvidia. Even a Blu-ray player has found a place in the box if you are investing in the luxury version.

The new Commodore 64 will run Linux (or Windows) and it will be possible to use a C64 emulator for the opportunity to experience all the old favorites again. On the Commodore U.S. website commodoreusa.net there are five different configurations of the C64 available, with prices ranging from $250 to $895.

A USB Ports Bouquet

On February 1, 2011, in Gadgets, by admin

If you have a lot of technology on the desktop it can just as well be stylish gadgets that brighten your life, right? Precisely this seems to be the intention of those who made this USB hub. Instead of just building a little dull gray box with sockets they have instead designed the hub as a window box with nice red USB flowers!
